The Carnival in Rome and in Ronciglione

Not many people know this, but the carnival was born in Rome.
In fact, since ancient times, the masks have always had an important role in the Roman culture producing masks as Rugantino or Meo Patacca depicting caricature, the vices and virtues of the
noble and popular society of that past times.

The most important events of the Carnival in Rome will be held in historic places such as Via del Corso, Piazza Navona, Spanish Steps, Piazza del Popolo, with street theater, horse shows, fighting gladiator, parades with colorful floats that will finish with a parade in mask in Via Tiburtina.
But the celebration of the most famous Carnival is held near Rome, in Ronciglione.

In fact, from Sunday, February 8, until Tuesday, February 17 will be held the Carnival of Ronciglione, the event that recalls the Roman Carnival Renaissance and Baroque, with all its rites accompanied by wonder and joy: the sound of the bell announcing the party, hand over the keys of the country to King Carnival, Race of Barberi, the floats, the ritual of death of Carnival with “smoccolata” final.
This beautiful little town in the province of Viterbo stages a glorious hymn to the fun, including floats, costumed groups, the town band and majorettes.

So in your vacation in Rome during the carnival do not forget to go visit Ronciglione and take the  opportunity to visit the charming historic center of the country.
